Citing ongoing maintenance needs, the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center is doubling the price to park in its ramp for most events.

The increase from $5 to $10, which is is the first since 2009, will take effect on Wednesday, Sept. 8. The DECC said its parking fee will still be below or on par with other convention centers around Minnesota after the increase.

"The increase will fund on-going maintenance needs of the parking structure. There are many infrastructure repairs and improvements to be addressed on the lots and ramps. The rate continues to be a good value for those wanting parking with reentry as they explore Canal Park and other Duluth locations," DECC Director of Communications Lucie Amundsen said in a news release Tuesday.

The price will remain $5 for UMD Bulldog Hockey season ticket holders and people attending the Duluth Home Show and the Duluth Fall Wedding Show. People who buy movie tickets at Marcus Cinema will still be able to get reimbursements.

The DECC is publicly-owned.
