Community Action Duluth is launching a new service to help those struggling with food insecurity called the Mobile Market.
It's described as a grocery store on wheels. The refrigerated truck will be stocked with fresh produce, pantry staples, dairy products and more for sale that people can pre-order online ahead of time. It will come to three locations throughout each month.
"We've seen even pre COVID-19 that low income communities, communities of color, experienced food insecurity at a higher rate and that's just been exacerbated by COVID-19 and so this is just one opportunity to try and address those issues," said Evan Flom, program manager for Seeds of Success at Community Action Duluth.
There's special discounts for anyone who uses SNAP EBT cards and also free food for kids.
People can pre-order online now. The soft open will happen this Saturday at the Duluth Children's Museum parking lot at 2125 West Superior Street from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The Mobile Market will be fully stocked for community members who do not preorder ahead of the event as well.
The next mobile market will be at:
- Morgan Park at Good Fellowship Community Center on March 5 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Lincoln Park at Lincoln Park Community Center on March 10 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
-Harbor Highlands at YMCA Community Center on March 20 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
