What is usually a fourth of July 5-k was transformed this year because of the pandemic. But the reason behind the running is still the same.

For the last 12 years, Breezy Point has hosted the annual 5K race on the grounds of the resort. And every year, runners have raised money to donate to Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge. They help people addicted to drugs and alcohol get clean.

COVID-19 pushed the race back, so they've just finished collecting all the fundraising and this year's grand total was bigger than ever at over $55,000.

The race organizers say it means so much to be able to give back.

"It's really humbling, To see the people come to our home to participate in this race, and to see lives changed because of what we do, is just beyond words to explain," said race organizer Stevie Paulson. It's just absolutely the most humbling thing I've ever done. And it just keeps growing every year."

The check was handed over on Thursday morning.
