COVID-19 complications are being blamed for the cancellation of one of Duluth's most popular annual events.
For the second year in a row the Duluth Lion's Club all you can eat pancake day fundraiser is being canceled all together for 2021.
"With the rise in the infection rate we just felt it was the right thing to do for the community," said Jim Denney, member of the pancake day organizing committee.
Typically held during the first week in May each year at the Duluth entertainment and convention center, the favorite flapjack fundraiser also had to be canceled last year because of the pandemic.
"This year's event was initially rescheduled to be held September 30th," Denney said. "But now we'll have to wait until May of next year." The annual event serves an average of 10,000 people on that one single day, raising money for several area charities, non-profits and children's organizations.
"This has been a really difficult decision," Denney said. "The DECC was available, we pulled things together, our sponsors were lined up and tickets were selling. All our supplies were even ordered, there was a whole lot of excitement."
The 63rd annual Duluth Lion's Club Pancake Day is now scheduled to be held on May 5th of 2022.
