Robotics team helps deliver groceries in Babbitt with their robot

Updated: April 01, 2020 06:22 PM

A group of mosquitos doing good things! The Iron Mosquitos are the robotics team from Northeast Range. On Wednesday, they spent time at Zup's in Babbitt, with their social distancing grocery bot!

The robot delivers groceries to people's cars. It also can transport the payment.

This idea was born in the last few hours of school, before the closure began. "They were lamenting the fact that robotics was over. And they said, hey! We can do robotic delivery! And they built it in a few hours," shared their coach, Ryan Lindsay.

The team will be there on Wednesdays from 10am-2pm.

Here's how it works:

1. Call in order or fill out online ( If online, call when you get to Babbitt Zup’s or are on the way.
2. Park by sidewalk by the door by the sign for grocery bot delivery.
3. The robot will drive near your vehicle. Stay in vehicle until it stops.
3. Place credit card in the robot bin.
4. Get back in vehicle. The robot will then return to store.
4. Wait for students to get groceries and ring up the sale in the store. It may take some time. Text the number if you have questions.
5. Once robot drives near vehicle and stops, get out of vehicle and get groceries, credit card and receipt. Wave to IRON MOSQUITO ROBOTICS team students in entry way, drive home and stay healthy!
