"There is absolutely no sugarcoating it right now. Itasca County, like much of Minnesota, is in trouble right now," shared Kelly Chandler, division manager of Itasca County Public Health.

The 14 day case rate is the highest it's been in the pandemic, Chandler said. It's at 143.7.

Kimberly Powell, a school nurse and RN at Bigfork Valley, said, "I worked a shift on Sunday and in 20 years, I've never left a shift that haunted and unnerved. We had four patients in-house, COVID patients. And we were unable to transfer these absolutely ICU quality patients. Physicians were working hours and days to find them an available bed, as far as Green Bay, Wisconsin, who did not have open beds."

"I've had to hear providers have conversations about, if you code and we need to intubate you, we can't, there's no where to send you. and we don't have capability to maintain a patient on life support for very long," she added.

There are more young kids getting the vaccine, she said. And there is hope, she said. "We still want the same things, safety for our kids and our parents and our peers."

But they all urge people to get your vaccine, wear masks, and maintain social distance.
