Gordy's Hi-Hat opens for the season with classic carhop service

Gordy's Hi-Hat opened for its 60th season on Wednesday. And they did so with gusto, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The restaurant in Cloquet is serving customers via classic CarHop service, which is a throw-back to when they opened in 1960!

"It's been going well, we've been ironing out the kinks," shared Sever Lundquist, Gordy's grandson."It's nice to see a lot of regular customers. We are blessed to have the customers we have. The community has always supported us."

People can call their orders in ahead of time, or just pull into the parking lot and order through their window.

Gordy's delayed the opening by three weeks, to make sure they had a safe, clean, and efficient process to serve their customers. "It was important we get our employees working, so they can earn a paycheck and start taking care of their families," Lundquist said. They are a seasonal business.

Customers couldn't wait for their Gordy's fix. "We've been stuck in the house for a couple of weeks. This is our treat, for social distancing," shared Jordan Anderson, of Cloquet.

Brandie Ellison, of Hibbing, said she loves Gordy's because they are more family-based. "You can get amazing food for a decent price. And it makes you very full," she laughed.

Her friend, Serena Cannata, said it was definitely different to take the food to go. "I love the atmosphere inside. The atmosphere is the best."

Gordy and Marilyn, the founders, are staying in Florida for now. "We wish them a happy 70th anniversary. They plan on being back to work later this summer," Lundquist shared.

The restaurant is open 7 days a week, from 10am-8pm. 218-879-6125
