Staff at Denfeld welcome the Class of 2024

A new way to do freshman orientation at Denfeld. The Class of 2024 got a warm welcome from staff on Thursday. But not at the building. Instead, it  was at their front doors!

Staff grabbed lawn signs, t-shirts, and orientation packets at the high school and headed right to the students' front doors.

Nicole Scharte, a German and civics teacher, said, "Denfeld is a community, and all about tradition. It's awesome we are continuing tradition in a different way."

She and Johanna Cummins hopped in the same vehicle, and made the deliveries.

Cummins is a Spanish teacher. "It's all about building those connections, and reinforcing the idea of community with our students even if we can't all be in the building together," she said.

The Hunters and other 6-12th graders in the Duluth school district are starting the year doing distance learning.
