The free COVID testing site in Hibbing is now open. It's at the armory, at 2310 Brooklyn Drive. On the first day, they had 351 people come through, according to Jason Metsa, deputy commissioner of Iron Range Resources. He's been helping coordinate the new site.

"I'm seeing my friends come in, parents and grandparents. Some look nervous, because they maybe have been exposed to COVID. But they leave looking relieved. And that's such an important part of this," Metsa said.

Eddie Haubrick, incident commander for the department of health, added, "On average, we get people in and out in 10 minutes. That's part of the relief. It's not painful, and not uncomfortable, and I can get along with my day."

National guard members help get you checked in, and then a medical team does the testing.

It is a nasal swab, but not the one that goes high up and is somewhat painful. Results are expected within 3-4 days.

The dates the site will be open are:

November 18-21, 23-24

December 1-3, 9-12, 16-18, 21-22, 28-30

Hours are 12pm-6pm. Appointments encouraged, but not required.
