TORONTO (AP) — The Canadian Open has been canceled for the second straight year amid the coronavirus pandemic. The fourth-oldest golf championship in the world is now setting its sights on next year.

Officials say the Canadian Open had a health and safety plan that included travel restrictions. Golf Canada set a timeline for deciding whether it could be played to give the PGA Tour a chance to go another direction.

The tour is now working on creating a one-time event in the U.S. to fill the gap.

The tournament was to be played June 10-13, one week before the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.
