Toby's drive-by birthday

When you picture a birthday party for a four year old, you likely think of loud, happy kids excited about cake and presents. That, however is not possible when we're all under a 'stay at home' order.

One local family came up with a pretty good alternative on Wednesday.

Little Toby Hansberry turned 4 years old Wednesday and his mom was determined to make it special.

Toby's friends can't come to a traditional party, so mom Sarah brought Toby's party outside to their entire hillside neighborhood.

She posted an invitation on social media for whoever wanted to drive, or walk by the house on 12th Avenue east to wish Toby a happy birthday, from afar!

"He's all about trucks and everything," Laura said. "He loves watching cars and stuff, so I thought this would be a lot of fun for him, perfect, right up his avenue."

The idea worked. There was practically a birthday parade going by, some folks just happened by, while others clearly had planned out their party attendance, by decorating their cars, making signs, even wearing funny outfits.

It was quite a festive atmosphere along 12th Avenue east. Toby had a great birthday despite Minnesota's stay-at-home orders.

And we think Laura deserves some kind of "best Mom of the Year" award!
