Checking out the trails at Chester

Checking out one of Chester’s trails

For this week's bike report, Sabrina Ullman ventured down the "Chester Bowl Rim Trail," which is near UMD.

Located near the University of Minnesota-Duluth as well as the College of St. Scholastica, the Chester Park Rim Trail is part of the Duluth Traverse. The 1.25-mile trail skirts through the outer perimeter of Chester Park.

“This trail is pretty beginner-friendly. It’s pretty smooth, pretty wide,” said Ski Hut employee Krista Holden. “This is a really great place to come with kids, with new bikers.”

This trail is a purpose-built singletrack with smooth, easy flow for mountain bikers. It is a multi-use trail that intersects several hiking-only trails, so caution is advised.

The recommended parking location for those wishing to use the Chester Bowl Rim Trail is the lot at the intersection of College Street and Kenwood Avenue. Trail maps for Chester Park can be found at this link
