About 40 people attended a Freedom of Information workshop, put on by Public Record Media, at the Duluth Public Library. Freedom of Information laws make government data, including city budgets and arrest information, available to the public.

Rich Neumeister, an open government advocate, presented the workshop and said he believes people need this information.

"Information is power," Neumeister said. "Don't we live in a democracy where we the people rule ... in order for us to be able to make sure the people who we elect rule appropriately."

Neumeister said getting that information is easy to do by making a data request.
