It is the northernmost beer festival in the state, and it's coming up this weekend. We're talking about the Hopped Up Caribou Beer Fest at Lutsen Mountains!
We visited with Executive Chef Doug Romey and Hopped Up Guest Chef Chris Walberg (a.k.a. Chef Wally) for a preview.
Chef Doug explained some of the Festival's food options this year, which include Whiskey Glazed St. Louis-style Ribs, Walleye Cakes and Drunken Oysters, and a big favorite - Chocolate-Covered Bacon.
Chef Wally brought a new treat for this year's festival, and it sounds like a relative of a traditional sweet drink many of us know and love - the root beer float! Just subtract the "root."
"We're doing beer floats this year for the first time ever, so it's going to be interesting," says Chef Wally, adding that folks will be able to get creative with their drinks. "They get to go to the 17 different brewers and pick out what beer they want to mix."
The 5th Annual Hopped Up Caribou Beer Fest is open to everyone on Saturday, July 11. Tickets are $40 at the door and include sampling of regional beers, food and live music from Big Wave Dave and the Ripples.
