Week 8: Learn More About Mission Creek
June 18, 2015 02:02 PM

Constructed in 2014, Mission Creek is a brand new, professionally built bike trail that is located in Duluth's Fon Du Lac neighborhood on the far West side of town.  COGGS Chair Member Waylon Munch says there's plenty of room for parking.

"It's accessed by taking Grand Avenue, all the way down past Spirit Mountain into Fon Du Lac and the trail head is right at Chamber's Grove Park at the intersection of Highways 23 and 210."

Munch says the Mission Creek trail is best suited for beginner and intermediate riders who are either new to mountain biking or who are looking to take some one out for the first time.

"It's wide, it's very smooth, beginners will have a blast on it.  But, it's built to be ridden very fast and very fun for the intermediate to advance rider too."

Right now, Mission Creek is about 7 miles long, but there are plans to open up another 6 miles within the next month or so.  Munch added that even though the trail has only been open for less than a year, it's already gaining popularity.

"It was actually just voted by the star tribune as the best trail in the state."

Munch says the trail's beautiful scenery might have something to do with it.

"People don't appreciate how awesome the topography is out here.  We are in a really cool valley with the St. Louis river right behind us and Mission Creek to the other side.  There are some amazing overlooks just up this trial."
