95 salaried positions at Cliffs Natural Resources facilities in northeastern Minnesota and the UP of Michigan are being eliminated.
Steelworkers Union leaders said the reductions do not involve any union workers. Cliffs leaders said the combination of positions are going away through retirements, role re-assignments, and eliminations.
On their earnings conference call last week, Cliffs leaders said they are continuing to reduce their costs wherever they can, and that includes reducing staffing.
“Once again, family and friends on the Range are facing economic hardship and an uncertain future.” said Rep. Carly Melin (DFL-Hibbing) in a statement.
“Unfortunately, this is becoming familiar news. We will do everything we can to make sure the state of Minnesota is supportive of our families on the Range and that they get the benefits they have earned and deserve,” said Rep. Jason Metsa (DFL-Virginia).
