March 11, 2015 07:57 PM

There were no injuries when a bomb squad detonated a pipe bomb outside the Hermantown Area Family Resource Center this afternoon.

The facility, which is on Miller Trunk Highway, was evacuated this morning after a parent noticed the object outside of the building.  The Crow Wing County Bomb Squad responded to the scene and detonated the object around 12:30 p.m.

Hermantown Deputy Police Chief Shawn Padden said the pipe bomb appeared to be old and may have been there for a while.  Authorities are testing powder that was in the object.

The Family Resource Center is operated by the Hermantown School District and offers pre-kindergarten and other programs.
