Fire in Vacant Duluth Home Causes $50K in Damage

December 20, 2014 10:24 PM

No one was injured when the Duluth Fire Department responded to a fire in the basement of a vacant home around 5:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Authorities say they found a working basement fire at 227 E. 8th St. The fire had extended to the first floor and the exterior of the second floor. They're estimating damage to be around $50,000.

Nearly 20 fire fighters from the Downtown, Lakeside, Woodland, Spirit Valley and Gary fire stations attacked the blaze from the exterior to bring it under control. Other crews were responding to the scene of a fatal fire at Duluth's Tri-Towers Apartment Complex at the same time.

The fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office.
