Minnesota Department of Public Safety officials say officers cited 678 drivers across the state during the first week of the new hands-free cellphone law. The Star Tribune reports that officers handed out 286 citations in Hennepin County, or about 40 percent of the total tickets issued.
A 46-year-old Hill City man was injured in a house explosion in the City of Remer on Wednesday. Kenny Hilton had been performing furnace service work when the explosion occurred. He is in the burn unit at a St. Paul hospital. A GoFundMe page has been created to help with expenses.

Remaining Duluth B Company Marines gathered at the Glensheen Mansion Thursday with their families and the families of some who have passed to celebrate the 69th anniversary of their call to active duty.
A Duluth family has been reunited with a World War I dog tag that had been out of their family for more than 80 years. The dog tag was found last spring by a man with a metal detector, and on Monday, it was given back to the family.
