DNR Predicting Hunters Will Take More Deer This Fall

Saturday is the Minnesota firearms deer hunting opener, and with more deer on the landscape this fall, the DNRA harvest of around 200,000 deer, which is well above last year's total.

That prediction comes after three consecutive mild winters and tight harvest regulations. With snow already on the ground, hunters are dreaming of success, but hunters should also be thinking about safety.

"You have to be more careful getting in and out of your deer stands and if you're in a portable for sure wear your harness. Slips and falls out of tree stands-- traditionally there is more people injuries from that than any other form of hunting accidents," said Region 3 Director, Brad Tevena.
