As Twin Ports nurses picket in Duluth, MNA nurses at Essentia-Moose Lake are informationally picketing starting Tuesday. Essentia purchased the hospital two years ago. Nurses say the healthcare company did not recognize their prior contracts, and have lost bonuses, earned sick leave hours, and company retirement contributions since that purchase.
The Minnesota legislature increased the income limit for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, from 165% of the federal poverty level to 200%. That means households of three making $3,600 a month or less are now able to receive food benefits.
Authorities say a pickup driver struck and killed a 33-year-old woman and the horse she was walking on the shoulder of a rural road in central Minnesota. The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Monday, about 5 miles southeast of Brainerd. The woman was declared dead at the scene.
Minnesota-based Dairy Queen Corp. has lost a federal lawsuit accusing a Massachusetts company of trademark infringement, for attaching the name “Blizzard” to its bottled water. A U.S. District Judge says Dairy Queen failed to show prove that the other company committed any infringement.
