"The building trades are excited. We are up to the challenge. And we're looking to give the opportunity to plenty of people in Duluth to come into the trades," shared Craig Olson, president of the building trades council.

The $800 million dollar investment will mean 2+million man hours of work, and is expected to create 5,600 onsite jobs along with 3,600 off-site construction jobs. It's going to be a replacement hospital bed tower, surgical suites, and clinic space.

Tim McGough, executive vice president of McGough, said, "The orchestration is pretty incredible. It's like a ballet. To watch these guys go through their routines and how well they coordinate their work together, it's pretty remarkable."

According to the building trades, the PLA applies to 16 different craft unions. It is unique in that the project size is unprecedented for Duluth. For example, it will include 28 elevator shafts, and involves different medical equipment.

"There's no one who builds in the North, like those who live in the North," added Dr. David C. Hermann, Essentia's CEO. "This project will ensure our facilities match how medicine is practiced in the 21st century."

You will be able to watch some of the construction progress on web-cams. Work is expected to start in the fall.

Essentia plans on moving into the new facility in the fall of 2022.
