Two Minnesota residents were rescued on the Cloquet River by St. Louis County authorities Sunday night.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's office says they responded to a water emergency on the river around 7:51 p.m. Sunday. Authorities say two women, a 45-year-old New Independence resident, and a 54-year-old Proctor resident, both swamped their kayaks, and were stranded in a swampy area between the Independence rest area and the Highway 8 bridge.

The St. Louis County Volunteer Sheriff's Rescue squad used a small boat to find the two females. The two were brought back to shore and checked by Emergency Medical Services.

Authorities say both suffered from minor hypothermia.
