Outstanding Women to be Honored at Port Cities Luncheon

The tradition of honoring outstanding women in the Northland continues on Wednesday, May 8. That's when the 95th annual Port CIties Luncheon is taking place.

The event is organized each year by a group of different Northland residents. They come together and look women volunteers of the Duluth/Superior area who are nominated for the title of "Woman of the Year." Four finalists are selected and the winner will be named at the luncheon. 

The 2019 nominees are:

  • Sharon Buchannan, St. Luke's Volunteer Service Guild
  • Marcia Semerau, Friends of the Duluth Public Library
  • Judy Arnold, Duluth Woman's Club
  • Carolyn Schroder, Altrusa International of Duluth

"They're very active," luncheon organizer Shirley Kaczmark said.

There will also be eight outstanding young women volunteers honored at the lunch:

  • Grace Billman, Proctor High School
  • Kierney Gray, Hermantown High School
  • Mya Halvorson, Denfeld High School
  • Katie Lee Hoven, Lakeview Christian Academy
  • Declan Ketchum, Marshall School
  • Kaylee Peck, Harbor City International School
  • Lora Randa, Superior High School
  • Lauren Skar, Duluth East High School

Also this year, our own Meterologist Justin Liles is scheduled to be the keynote speaker. Organizer Gloria Brunette says the theme of his speech is "Weather or Not."
