UW-S Athletic Department to Celebrate Week of Giving

Created: December 06, 2019 09:00 AM

It's the season of giving and all next week the UW-Superior Athletic Department is giving back to the community for the fourth year in a row with their "Week of Giving."

Student athletes from all of the different sports will be involved in different activities giving back during the week.

"On December 12th, we're doing caroling for cans in the Superior community where we go out as athletic teams and collect non-perishable food donations from community members that we then donate to the food bank," Eva Reinertsen, a women's basketball player, said.  "That's always been super fun as a team to get out there and interact with the community and give back in that way.

Mathea Brink, who runs track and field, said the community supports them so it's nice to give back to them.

"One of the new things that we're doing this year is on Sunday, December 15th we're doing a holiday party that is open to the public," Brink said.

The party is from 2 to 4 p.m. at UW-Superior and it will have youth skating, holiday crafts, games, and more.

Brink said community members come to games, they help with donations, and are always there to support them.

"I think the feeling of giving back for the younger people on the team, the freshmen and sophomores and things that are kind of new to it, we're both seniors so we've done it multiple years now, so I just think for them to be able to experience what it is to give back to the community and the feeling of volunteering and being out there and interacting with people, they really give to us so much and everytime we have games and meets and things they're out there supporting us," Reinertsen said. "It's just some small way that we can give back."

Look for the student athletes next week from December 8 to December 15 and thank them for giving back!
