Take in the Sounds of the Season at UMD

Updated: December 04, 2019 04:55 PM

If you're looking to get in the holiday spirit, how about taking in the "Sound of the Season," at UMD.  This weekend, music students will put on performances on Friday and Saturday.

"You're going to get a wide variety of different styles of music and different kinds of music all centered around the holidays," Dr. Mark Whitlock, the Department Head and Director of Bands, said. "It is a very fast paced event that goes on between bands and all of our choral groups, so I think it's pretty exciting."

Dr. Richard Robbins, the Director of Choral Activities, said they choose songs for their own groups.

"We all select things that are seasonal and work for our groups, but we also have some combined repertoire that we'll do together, put all the students together on stage," Robbins said.

Whitlock said it takes a lot of organization beforehand.

"I think it's a great experience for students," Robbins said.

It's one of Robbins' favorite concerts of the year and said it's a great way to finish off the semester.

"I know there's a lot of students in the band that just love this time of year and they love the music, so they have a lot of fun, but what's really interesting is to see the smiles on the faces of the audience members," Whitlock said.

The performances are on Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7 at Weber Music Hall.  Tickets can be purchased here.
