It's called "Skate for the Heart" and it's the last in a series of skating events put on by the Duluth Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with the heritage center and local businesses.

"We're just trying to stay in that holiday spirit after the winter holidays and try to get kids out here for Valentine's Day," Meghan Walker with the Essentia Duluth Heritage Center says.

"It's a great venue to get out and skate, " Nick Budnik with the Parks and Recreation Department says. "During the hockey season it's especially busy. It's nice to be able to squeeze in a little time where we have the community out to go skating."

This time around, there will be Valentine's Day crafts and science experiments put on by the Duluth Children's Museum.

Walker says the Boys and Girls Club of the Northland will be doing a jump rope challenge to teach kids about heart health. She says members of the heart and vascular team at Essentia will also be there to teach folks about the heart.

"Skate for the Heart" is Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. It is open to everyone.
