Renegade Theater Company Taking on Powerful Production

The Renegade Theater Company is taking the stage with the production "Fun Home."

The tony-winning musical is based on the graphic novel and life-story of Alison Bechdel.

"We start at the Fun Home," Christina Stroup-Manchester with the Renegade Theater Company says. "She grew up with a father who was a mortician. It's her life with her two brothers. There's a lot of laughs, there's a lot of tears."

The audience will see three different parts of Alison's life: Her childhood, her young adult years and her as an adult.

"You get an invitation to Alison's memory," Stroup-Manchester says.

She says it's intriguing to see different actresses take on the same role, but in different times of her life.

"The three actresses we have are all incredible and they bring something so unique and different to the part. So, when I interact with each one of them on stage, it's a growing experience as an actor to have that."

Stroup-Manchester plays the role of Bechdel's mom. The actor says her character wants to keep everything perfect, but it 'slowly cracks away.'

Stage Manager Katie Jacobson has been an anchor backstage making sure each actor has what they need. She also coordinates with the lighting designer, sound designer, artistic director and director of the show to make sure everything looks perfect for the audience.
