Pies, Brats and More on Tap for Annual Rhubarb Festival

CHUM is baking over 1,100 pies for this years "Rhubarb Festival."

The Duluth nonprofit is hoping for another great turnout for the free event, which features all kinds of rhubarb-themed treats available for purchase.

"We have scones, we have bars, we have cakes, we have many other different things that come around " festival organizer Char Juntunen says.

Another item that people seem to enjoy are rhubarb bratwursts. Juntunen says they have around 450 pounds of bratwursts prepared for this year. Besides food, there will be live entertainment, a climbing wall, coloring contests and a "big leaf" contest. All proceeds go toward helping people who are homeless or have low-income.

Organizers are also looking for younger volunteers to help with the festival, especially those that can lift heavy objects.

"There's a lot of cases where people, who have been doing it for many years, are having trouble doing it," Juntunen says.

The festival is Saturday, June 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Duluth, which is located on 11th Avenue East and London Road.
