A familiar farmers market and summer movie series are returning to Duluth next week. The special events coordinator for the Greater Downtown Council, Darlene Marshall, stopped by GMN Tuesday to give the scoop on both.

"Everything's been grown or made here," she says. "Come on out and meet your grower."

The downtown farmers market at the Lake Superior Plaza begins next Tuesday and will be open every Tuesday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. until Sept. 25. Marshall says as always there will be a great selection of locally made produce to buy.

In addition, folks can head to Leif Erikson Park starting this Friday for the return of "Movies in the Park." This year's line-up includes a rather eclectic selection of films:

  • Dirty Dancing, July 13, 9:05 p.m.
  • Ghostbusters (1984), July 20, 9 p.m.
  • Ghostbusters (2016), July 27, 8:50 p.m.
  • Wonder, Aug. 3, 8:45 p.m.
  • Footloose (1984), Aug. 10, 8:35 p.m.
  • Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Aug.17, 8:25 p.m.
  • La La Land, Aug. 24, 8:10 p.m.
  • Despicable Me 3, Aug. 31, 8 p.m.

Marshall says the selections were made based off of votes made by followers on Facebook.

"The top 8 vote-getters are what the line-up is this year," she explains.

Concessions will be sold at each movie as well.
