Life Coach: Setting New Year's Standards, Not Resolutions

Updated: December 28, 2018 09:18 AM

The New year is just days away which means many people are getting their new year's resolution ready. Life Coach Pam Solberg-Tapper suggests a different of changing self standards, instead of making resolutions.

"Standards are rules," Solberg-Tapper says.

She explains that they're decisions you make with an implication that you are tired of the way something is going in your life.

1. Turn "shoulds" into musts

When change is a 'must,' you decide 'enough is enough.'

2. Create rituals

"Rituals are little things we do on a daily basis to help reinforce our standards," Solberg-Tapper says.

During her visit to GMN Friday, she used athletes as an example. She says they might visualize the finish-line or visualize an event coming up.

3. Adhere to the five second rule

She suggests to count backwards to yourself "5-4-3-2-1- GO." to push yourself toward a hard or uncertain like a new goal.
