Life Coach: Socializing at Parties

Summer is almost here and that means grad parties, family picnics and other social gatherings. For those who have a hard time talking with others at these types of events, life coach Pam Solberg-Tapper has tips.

1. Up your mindset

"It's just like getting ready for a game if you're in sports," Solberg-Tapper says. 

She suggests taking some deep breaths, standing up tall and smiling with confidence.

2. Use "get-to-know you" questions

  • How do you know the host?
  • Where are you from?
  • What do you do for fun?

3. Focus on the other person

Some people get nervous when meeting someone new, whether it be worrying about what to say or how to act. She says if the focus is shifted to the person your talking to instead of yourself, the nerves will fade.
