For those who don't know, the musical focuses on as they travel into the woods to find various object that will break a spell on them, cast by an evil witch. Along their journey, they encounter some familiar fairy tale characters like Little Red Ridinghood, Jack & his Beanstalk, Cinderella, and Rapunzel.

"There are a lot of adventures that happen in the woods that challenge the characters," Gray says, "and we get to be an essential part of that."

She says this is the first time Hermantown Drama Club has tackled a Stephen Sondheim written play. Auditions were last spring. The cast had the summer to look over the script and songs. They've been rehearsing together for about 10 weeks now including set builds on the weekends.

"I think that everybody will love it and it will be a fun experience for all of us," Burnap says.
