Gowns, Great Sounds Filling Grounds of Glensheen

Updated: July 01, 2019 09:36 AM

The grounds of Glensheen Mansion are filled year-round. Whether it be people on daily tours, goats chewing up weeds or apples, there is always something to look forward to. This summer, people who visit will get to see gowns and local music performances.

The "Gowns of Glensheen" exhibit, which opened earlier this month, is attracting history buffs and fashion critics alike. There are 20+ items (party dresses, furs, etc.) of the Congdon women placed throughout the 39-room mansion.

"It took a team of us to put together the exhibit..." Marketing Director Jane Pederson said. "Milissa Brooks-Ojibway, our Collections Manager spent quite a bit of time making sure that she had the right mannequins for these dresses because people were quite a bit smaller back then."

Before the exhibit opened, the gowns had been a part of Glensheen's collection storage.

In addition, "Concerts on the Pier" begin Wednesday, July 3. The weekly summer series features different local artists belting out tunes to dozens of music lovers. People can watch from shore or from a watercraft on Lake Superior.

"It's just such a quintessential Duluth event," Pederson said.

Concerts run every Wednesday through July 31. Click here for more details.
