DULUTH - Jan Gornik of Duluth shared an old family recipe with Good Morning Northland.  Her recipe for Ice Box Cookies came from her mother-in-law.  Jan says her children, grandchildren and now great-grandchildren love them. She says these cookies are simple to make and yet are delicious.

This cookie recipe was one of the entries in the Good Morning Northland Cookie Contest.  We asked GMN viewers for their favorite recipes and wanted to share one of Jan Gornik's favorites. Enjoy!

Ice Box Cookies

1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Chill dough. Roll dough into logs and roll in colored sugar. Refrigerate until firm. Then slice.

Bake cookies at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
