Hermantown native Michael Koppy is aiming to run all  310 miles of the Superior Hiking Trail in record time.

According to a release, the 68-year-old is attempting a "Fastest Known Time" on the trail. He'll start on the Northern end near the Canadian border on Saturday. The release says he's running to raise awareness and funds for the Superior Hiking Trail Association. Track his progress here.

Koppy says he feels connected to the trail and wants it to be around in the future for others to enjoy. He and his wife are making a donation to the association.

He is also asking others to donate. A Facebook page has been set up where people can send money. He'll be matching donations up to $5,000.
