Christina Stroup, a singer in "Smokey Joe's Cafe," said the show includes hits from the 60s like "Hound Dog" and "Love Potion Number 9."

"Stuff that brings a lot of nostalgia and memories back for people," Stroup said.  "Our director Michael Ferrell has done an amazing job of taking the show that's typically just song and dance and putting a beautiful story within it and making each new song something new and inventive."

Stroup said it will bring people in and they hope people will be standing in the aisles clapping and singing along.

"People don't necessarily know the title, but they know the music," Stroup said.

Christine Gradl Seitz, the Duluth Playhouse Artistic Director, said it's one show-stopping song after another.

"We call it the finger-snapping, toe-tapping musical," Gradl Seitz said.

They've been preparing with a lot of rehearsals, Gradl Seitz said. They're looking forward to an exciting season.

"This will be followed by 'Heroes and Villians,'" Gradl Seitz said. "Our holiday show will be 'Wizard of Oz,' 'Mounty Python's Spamalot,' 'Steel Magnolias,' 'Mouse Trap,' and we end our season with 'Tommy.'"

They said there's a little bit of everything.

Smokey Joe's Cafe start on September 19 and goes until September 29.  You can get tickets here
