The show includes 18 different dances and they're primarily choreographed by the students, according to artistic director, Rebecca Katz-Harwood.

"There are a couple of faculty pieces, but this is mostly the students' creativity," Katz-Harwood said.  "There are dances in a range of different styles from ballet, to jazz, to contemporary, we have several tap pieces this year, and some of them are very light-hearted and some of them are taking on more substantial issues."

One piece is a collaboration with students and faculty from computer science.  It showcases robots that are being developed to work with patients with dementia.  Ann Bergeron, a professor of dance, is collaborating with Dr. Arshia Khan to put it together.

"It's going to be a little collaboration with human dances and the robots," Katz-Harwood said.

DanceWorks 2019 takes the stage December 5 through 7 at 7:30 p.m. and December 8 at 2 p.m. at the Marshall Performing Arts Center.
