Hitting the Mark: Courage Kenny Shoot for Fun

Created: September 04, 2019 09:29 AM

A popular fundraiser for the Courage Kenny Rehabiliation Institute, Shoot for Fun, is back for the 21st year.  It's this Saturday and the event is a big support for the organization.

Eric Larson, with Courage Kenny, said it's a shooting sports event, clay target shooting, and a hand-eye coordination skill game.

"You're simulating shots that you might see in a wild hunting situation," Larson said. "It's a game of skill, so it's kind of humbling trying to hit the moving targets, but it's all raising money for a great cause that's supporting local programs here promoting recreation and adaptive recreation for people."

The event started twenty-one years ago and has grown immensely.  It started with about 35 people and now there are over 400 participants. There are people from all over the community that get involved. WDIO's own Justin Liles is emceeing the event.

The event is the only fundraiser for local programs.

"It raises over a third of our operating budget annually and it really is tremendous not only in raising operating dollars, but also in creating awareness about year-round recreational pursuits and adaptive programming that we do," Larson said.

They're always looking for volunteers to help with their programs.  If anyone is interested in getting involved, Larson said they can call him directly.  His number is 218-393-0757 or you can email him at
