Folks have until Friday, April 12 to turn in a design. There are five basic principles to follow:

  1. Keep it simple
  2. Use meaningful symbolism
  3. Use 2 - 3 basic colors
  4. No Lettering or Seals
  5. Be distinctive

City Planning Technician Mollie Hinderaker says 'be distinctive' is her favorite as she hopes it makes people think hard about what represents Duluth.

The entry form to submit an entry can be found here

Once the submission period is over, a 'flag comittee' consisting of nine people will get together and look over the entries, according to Hinderaker. In May, there will be a 'Showcase Event' at city hall where the public can look over and vote on the final designs. Online voting will be available as well.

The winner is scheduled to be announced on July 19.
