Actor's Amelia Barr (Charlotte) and Lauren Hugh (Fern) both say their version of the story is a condensed, exciting, and fast-paced.

"Obviously, we want it shorter to work for a child's attention span," Hugh says.

However, it's a play that people young and old will enjoy.

It's still very similar to the story itself, which will allow young kids to recognize it and be able to follow along. Even though it's mainly for children, the college students themselves are still taken back by the message of the story each rehearsal.

"It always surprises us how moved we really do get by this story," Barr says.

"Charlotte's Web" opens Thursday, Feb. 1 at the Marshall Performing Arts Center on UMD's campus. Showtime is set for 6:30 p.m.

The play will run every Thursday - Sunday until Feb. 10. There are matinee showings as well.
