48th Annual Breakfast with Santa This Weekend

A holiday tradition that's been around for decades is happening again for its 48th year.  It's the Breakfast with Santa put on by the Port of Duluth Kiwanis Club.

"After 48 years, it's not only that it's this wonderful Christmas thing, we're seeing people who've been there as children and they're bringing their own kids now," Cordy Swanson, the Breakfast Chair for Kiwanis, said. "It makes you feel like a real part of the community and that's what Kiwanis is all about, community and family and kids."

The breakfast includes a delicious meal including pancakes from Perkins, sausage, fruit, pastries, and beverages.

Swanson said it's a magical Christmas experience with live music, balloon sculptures, cookie decorating, and more.

"Kiwanis is really about children and one of our huge initiatives is our 'Reading is Fundamental Program,' so every child that comes to visit with Santa, beyond getting a candy cane and telling him what they want for Christmas, they each get a free book," Swanson said.

The proceeds from the event support the Kaleidoscope Program at the Duluth Public Library which is celebrating its 40th year.

Breakfast with Santa is on Saturday, December 14th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at First United Methodist or the Coppertop Church.  It is $5 a person or $20 for a family.
