"When we started, we thought we'd maybe do like a chef cook-off or something down at The Sports Garden, but logistically, we couldn't figure it out, so we decided to go with the cowbell event," Dr. Ken Larson, with the Northern Lights Foundation, said.  "It's just taken off since then."

The idea to have the "More Cowbell" event came from someone at Grandma's and it's a spoof off of the old Saturday Night Live skit.  They weren't sure if the idea would stick, but Larson said it's only grown through the years.

"It's huge because it's one of our bigger fundraisers," Larson said.  "What it does, the money goes to local families with a child facing a life-threatening illness."

They give grants to the families and they can use it for whatever they need at the time, whether it's travel, medical expenses, or mortgages, Larson said.

There will ten different acts this year, as well as some of the winners from the last ten years.

"It's a great community, family event, so we're looking for a full audience there," Larson said.  "We had probably 600 people there last year."

The event is Thursday, January 17th at The Sports Garden.  Doors open at 5 p.m. and it goes until 11 p.m.  Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door.  Click here to buy tickets.
