DULUTH, Minn. - A brand new bike trail is coming to Spirit Mountain in Duluth. The All Weather Mountain Bike Trail (ATW) will have a hardened surface so it can be used during wet conditions. Organizers at Spirit Mountain says this one of a kind trail will be the first of its kind in the Midwest.

When other trails in the Spirit Mountain and Duluth area are too wet to ride after rain events, the ATW will give another recreational option for bikers across the area.

"This'll be meaningful for our local residents as well as people visiting." Pam Schmitt, Director of Fundraising for COGGS told Eyewitness News. "Make us much more attractive venue for hosting competitions, races events and even in the event of inclement weather."

"We are really excited about the support from COGGS and Loll and Bent Paddle," Jon Regenold, Action Sports Manager at Spirit Mountain said. "So today is about celebrating community partnership."

The Cyclists of Gitchee Gumee Shores (COGGS), LOLL Designs and Bent Paddle helped raise money for construction of the project. A check for $3,210.66 was presented at an event at Spirit Mountain on Thurday.

"This trail is super important to the overall plan that COGGS has been working towards with the City of Duluth and many other partners," Schmitt said. "It's going to continue to diversify the offerings we have."
