It's Northern Minnesota's perfect version of a winter triathlon. Over the weekend dozens participated in the Stride, Ride, Glide Tri at the Superior Municipal Forest where proceeds went towards more efficient grooming equipment for the trails.

Participants ran a 5k, biked a 10K course, and finished with a 10K ski portion.

"It's a really great atmosphere," said racer Lucy Campbell. "Everybody is super nice. When I got passed by one person, he was telling me keep going I'm doing great," she added.

Combining the three silent sports is not for everyone which is why racers could participate as an individual or a three-person team; something Jess Peterson said was a nice option.

"Most people wouldn't be able to do the whole race if they couldn't split it up with a team," Peterson said.

Peterson participated in the run portion of the triathlon while her brother biked and her husband skied to complete their team.

The main goal of the event was to raise money to go towards the upkeep of the trails.

"They have the most amazing trail system here. They groom seven days a week and I wanted to raise money for better grooming equipment," said Race Coordinator Eve Graves.

Under new management, the grooming staff has been able to get new grooming equipment to help maintain the trails.

"I think we're over 70 days of continuous grooming on the season, so to see them utilized and see folks out here is really awesome," said Superior Parks, Rec, and Forestry Superintendent Russ Behlings.

Behlings added that the proceeds of the Stride, Ride, Glide Tri event will go toward maintaining the new equipment as well as looking for replacement for further equipment on the trails.
