Going up against teams from both Minnesota and Wisconsin, it's a tournament second-year Superior head coach Bob Coleman says has a lot of history.

"When I was coaching at a different school, we came here every year since the mid 90's. It's always been a tough tournament and great for the kids," said Coleman.

On top of it's notable tenure, the tournament continues to create history. This year the host team of Superior led all Northland teams finishing in second place, with four Spartans taking first.

Ashland's Erik Gerovac also tallied a milestone on the day earning his 100th career win as an Oredocker. He earned it in style pinning his opponent.

"Going into high school, I didn't think so (could reach 100 wins), but I was at about 90 wins going into senior year, so I knew I was going to hit it sometime soon," said Gerovac.

Superior's Oscar Flaherty also recorded his 100th win as a Spartan during the tournament.

The Spartan Classic is known for bringing in great competition and also comes at a crucial point in the season.

"It's like a preview for our conference tournament," said Superior senior Branden McClure. "We don't have all the teams, but we have enough to get a good basis down."

"This tournament is kind of the turning point of the season," added Gerovac. "It kind of shows where everybody is going to be on our team and see where other teams are going to be."

It's a good way for teams to see how they stack up against their opposition as teams have just over a month until regionals and sectionals.
