Web Extra: Additional Highlights from Grand Rapids vs Alexandria in State AAA Quarters

Minneapolis, Minn. - A showdown of seeded teams, it came down to the very end between fourth-seeded Grand Rapids and fifth seeded Alexandria at Target Center in the quarterfinals of the Minnesota State AAA Girl's Basketball Tournament. Tied at 44, Alexandria had the ball at the very end and sophomore guard Kaye Paschke drove into the lane and connected just before the buzzer as the Cardinals won 46-44 to advance to the State AAA Semifinals.

Alexandria took a 28-18 lead into halftime, but the Thunderhawks would answer in the second half, putting together a 16-2 run. Both teams would trade the lead, before Kendall Kohler connected on one her four 3-pointers to put the Cardinals in front 42-40 with just over 5:00 to play. With Grand Rapids in foul trouble, Alexandria was able to run the clock down. With under 30 seconds to go, Alexandria lead 44-42 when Hannah DeMars hit two free-throws to tie the game at 44 with

Kohler, a senior, had 17 points for the Cardinals (26-4) while senior center Kayla Feldhake chipped in with 16. Sophomore forward Meara Beighley had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Grand Rapids (23-6).

Alexandria will face top-seeded Orono in the State AAA Semifinals on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. at Williams Arena. Grand Rapids will face Willmar in the State AAA Consolation Semifinals on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. on the campus of Concordia-St. Paul.
