Hat Trick for Biondi as #1 Hermantown Advances to State A Semifinals

St. Paul, Minn. - The Hermantown Hawks came into Wednesday needing three more wins to complete a three-peat as Class A State Champions. Now, the Hawks need two more wins as the top-seeds defeated Monticello/Maple Lake 4-2 in the Class A Quarterfinals. Sophomore Blake Biondi had a hat trick, along with an assist, in the win.

The Hawks have won the past two state titles and have played for the state title the last eight seasons.

Biondi scored 2:47 into the game and almost four minutes later, Jake Herter doubled the lead with a power play goal.

Biondi scored for the second time, connecting at 1:54 into the second period to give Hermantown a 3-0 lead. The Moose would answer with goals from Matt Miller 3:22 and 5:49 into the period. Hermantown held on to take a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

In the third period, Biondi scored his third goal of game, connecting at 14:29 in.

Hermantown will face the winner of Thief River Falls and Alexandria on Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the State A Semifinals at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The game will be televised in the Northland on WDIO/WIRT.
