Duluth, Minn. - He made a name for himself in prep pucks at Hibbing-Chisholm and two games into his college career, Bulldog Freshman Defenseman Scott Perunovich is turning heads. He's the reigning National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Rookie of the Week.

Perunovich had a two-point weekend, both coming on the power play, including a goal on Saturday vs Michigan Tech. He also made the Ice Breaker All-Tournament Team. He'll be part of his first collegiate road game on Friday when UMD visits Bemidji State. Perunovich's coach is from Hibbing and that is Scott Sandelin. The fellow Hibbing native is impressed by the young blueliner's improved defense, vision and instincts.

"We want him to be part of the offense and do those things and play to his strengths and I want him to get up ice and make plays and be like a fourth forward for us as much as he can," says Sandelin.

"Getting prepared for the road game and getting everything ready is going to be fine - especially for Bemidji - that should be a good series," says Perunovich.

UMD (1-1-0) and Bemidji State (0-0-0) will meet in a home-and-home series with the Beavers hosting Friday's game and the Bulldogs hosting Saturday's game.
