Virginia's Ethan Youso Signs NLI With UMD Basketball

Duluth, Minn. - Ethan Youso of Virginia High School has signed his National Letter of Intent (NLI) during the early signing period to play basketball with the UMD Bulldogs and will join the team next season. UMD announced his signing on Wednesday.

Youso is a 6-foot-7 big man who averaged 19.1 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.1 blocks, and 2.4 assists for the Blue Devils last season. He directed those Blue Devils to a 25-4 record, where they claimed the Iron Range Conference title, and had their season end in the Class 2A Section 7 semifinals. He was named to Duluth News Tribune All-area First Team in 2016-17. Youso is a 1,000 point scorer for head coach Joel McDonald, the son of famous basketball coach and UMD player Bob McDonald.

Youso, a senior, is a three-sport athlete at Virginia High School. Last spring, his tennis team placed second at the State Tournament and he finished up his high school football career this fall. Outside of the sports landscape, he is a 4.0 student and plays the tenor saxophone. Youso's grandfather, Frank, played National Football League with the New York Giants, the Minnesota Vikings and the Oakland Raiders.
